The Dilemma of the Ever Growing Purse...

Hi Darlings:

My friend Leon recently moaned on his site Listen to Leon about being attacked by extremely large purses while attending the Media Mavens event at the Park last Tuesday. I was at that event and can attest to it being extremely crowded and hard to maneuver from one end of the room to the next. I too have marveled how the size of purses have grown in stores and with the options I choose for my closet. I used to be a small purse gal. My purses had to be large enough for my cell phone, lipstick, keys and ID and be able to fit snugly under my arms and out of the way. Ever since I bought into the big bag craze I find that I carry around things that I just don't need. We won't go there with the details.

At this point, I would venture to say that I really don't need to lift too many dumbbells in the gym because my bag works well as a substitute. But on the other hand, although heavy my big purses look undeniably fabulous hanging from my forearm.

Let me know what you think below...

Hat Attack over accessories

Hi Darlings:

I was at the hair salon on Friday pm when I saw the cutest belt in one of the fashion mags. As per usual, I made a written note to look up the line - Buji Baja by Hat Attack. I was fascinated because the belt in the mag was a dear and under $60 well within our budget fashionista purchase limit. Not sure if you've heard of Hat Attack but on their website they have the cutest hats and accessories. Most are within budget while others might cost a few extra pennies here and there. :) If you get a moment take a look at these two items:

The Buji Baja Luxe rope belt with gold hardware for $92... and The Buji Baja Raffia crocheted clutch with leather trim for $88. Hugs and besos.

Red ... the Color of the hour.

Hi Divas:

Seems like red has become the Fall accent color of the hour. It is showing up everywhere!

Katherine Heigl uses red in jewelry accents and her purse. For budget versions of the jewelry try Forever 21 or Target and you can find a similar version of the purse at baghaus.com.

Nicole Richie recently accentuated an all black outfit with a red beret! It was a darling touch that is so divine I want to go buy one now! We all can get the look for less at Urban Outfitters.

Red lipstick after laying low for many years since its advent in the 80's is becoming vogue again. However, for a few tips: when wearing red lips tone down the eyes and cheeks. Its a statement color so over applying makeup can put you on the verge of gaudy.

Ciao bellas. Have a great day!

Fashion Review - Spring '08

Hi Diva Socialistas:

Last week at the Corcoran DC the local Fashion Group Intl chapter had their semi-annual discussion on the latest trends in the Spring '08 fashion shows. All the fashionista darlings always seem to range from those who dress to the nines - minks and all to the students in jeans! I opted to dress up...

Its always fun seeing the trends and even more spectacular if you have been tracking the shows and they come up with the same conclusions as you. Overall the Spring trends were shown to be not only heading towards the romantic but also there is a focus on shape, transparency and prints all in a way slightly different than we've seen in the last few years. One point to note that was mentioned during the discussion is the effect the advent of the Internet has had on the fashion trend cycle. Technology brings designs to the masses at a greater speed causing the cycles of fashion to no longer be around 10 years but a lot sooner.

Here are some quick mentions:

1.) Yeohlee I loved for hair and makeup and Dior by Pat McGrath.
2.) Layering transparent fabrics (like chiffon) is great especially with the new trend of citrus colors. The layer of for example black transparent fabric over a yellow dress (Carolina Herrera) tones down the bring color and allows you to wear the hue without calling too much attention to yourself.
3.) Shape - or rather loose fitting dresses took us away from the tight fitted fabrics and designs from past years. Diane von Furstenberg, Missoni's kaftan
4.) High waisted pants - despite what was said and after being in Paris a few months ago...I don't believe this trend will last. In Paris no one was wearing highwaisted. It is such a awkward item to fit into a wardrobe.
5.) Blown up prints like paisley were refreshing (Christian LaCroix); Armani and Proenza Schouler
6.) The citrus trends (yellow, pink, orange, green) of the last two seasons is still in! Go figure...
7.) The art or statement shoe - everyone should have at least one in their closet...see last weeks post on the statement shoe.
8.) Bangles and cuffs are said to be in but for me they were never out!
9.) On the green scene - cotton is making a comeback

Overall the presentation was worthwhile and informative! Have fun with your Spring '08 wardrobes.

Ciao bellas!

Keys on Lock

Hey Diva darlings:

So I decided to hang out with my co-workers on Thursday. What was supposed to just be happy hour at Joe Theismans in Alexandria, VA went on to be dinner at a local pub on Kings St. The good times kept going on and on. Fun times.....

At dinner we met an amazing woman - Sandy - with a diva-fide product. She started speaking with us more once she found out that we knew a thing or two about patents. Amazingly she has invented a great product called the Finders Key Purse. You clip your key onto a hook that you hang over the side of your purse. That way you don't have to search your purse for the keys you just pull up the custom made hook and wallah...keys are found.

This unique design is pure diva because they are decorated with either purses, red lips, high heels, matini glasses or butterfly. How divine!
Sandy proclaims that to date she has sold 3 million key holders!!! Amazing. That day she had just finalized a deal with QVC.

I have the pink purse finders key (only $7) and I am absolutely loving it!!!

Happy shopping diva darlings!

Hugs.

Must Have Wallet

Okay Diva Socialistas:

So I've been eyeing the Nordstrom "Lodis" wallet for months now. With names like "Diva", "Crash Diva" and "Primadonna" it should have been but a match made in heaven ...

Lodis - Primadonna and Herringbone Clutches

no matter how much I salivate over this eye catching must have I can't bring myself to buy a wallet for over $100 even if it's simply darling and like stands out and can double as a mini-clutch when out on the town for the night....

But for budget divas like myself the alternative is always right around the corner. Nine West has the same design for $59.
The patent leather "miniaudier" comes in white and red. It is cute and just as chic and guess what - same purse in Filene's for $12.99 in black and red patent leather.

Loves it...

You don't have to break your wallet to look diva.
